curiousangel and I have moved. And I think I speak for both of us when I say, "Augh! We're never doing this again! Augh!"
But now the house is starting to come together. You can see a real living room taking shape around the heaps of boxes. Our books are on the shelves - on the first two floors, at least. Everything in the kitchen is nicely slotted away in its own place.
curiousangel, a true hero, set up the computers yesterday and hooked mine up with our shiny new DSL service. We have a temporary resident's parking permit, and have already received one parking ticket while trying to figure out all of the refinements of its use.
I think I'm going to really enjoy living downtown. Wednesday night, after we moved, I strolled five blocks over to the church for a meeting. I called
curiousangel when the meeting was over, and he walked up to meet me on Madison and Charles, about three blocks from our house. We looked around at the five or so different restaurants on that corner and decided on a Japanese/Vietnamese place. Then, after dinner, we strolled home. Friday morning, I walked one block to Cathedral street and caught a bus to work - a ten-minute ride. The bus let me out across the street from my office. I feel connected to
everything here. This is just what I wanted.
Also: last night I had the best pizza of my life. Went out with
curiousangel,
dedoc, and Doc's son John, to a cafe two blocks from our house. I had a smoked salmon and salmon egg pizza that was absolutely. To.
Die. For. I was expecting the big salmon eggs that I know from sushi bars as
ikura, and sort of used as a garnish, but instead I got tiny red eggs and tiny black eggs, in big heaping teaspoonsful. And plenty of smoked salmon. Mmmmm.
I love my neighborhood. When are you all coming to visit?
(Note: I have a new e-mail address, as some of you may already know. It's rivka5@verizon.net, just the same as the old address but with "verizon" in the place of "comcast.")
