(no subject)

This morning, when I left for work, it was colder in Baltimore than on Mars.

I dragged my Iowa parka out of the cedar closet in the attic and wore it to work, along with my boots and my silk long johns and jeans and a tightly-knit wool sweater and my heavy fleece-lined pleather gloves. I couldn't find my scarf, but the hood of my parka has a wind protector that velcros together to shield my neck and the lower half of my face. I wish to point out that the need to dress like this in the winter was a major reason why I left Iowa in the first place.

I have subsequently discovered that the world does not end if I see research subjects while wearing jeans. I suspected not, but have always obediently dressed in professional clothing even when it was fucking freezing.

Some might say that the reason I am so tired and vaguely ill right now is that my lunch consisted solely of two pieces of cake. But at least it was good cake.

Off to wait at the bus stop, brr.

I hope this finds you safely, and warmly, at home.

What a great opening line!

I hope you're warmer now.

Sending you warming thoughts of hot tea.

--Trinker,
*STILL* sick, and grumpy about it.

I do hope that you are feeling much better.

I hope that it has warmed up there now... I was glad to get out Thursday afternoon before I was *too* cold (didn't bring a coat ;).

You didn't bring a coat? And you're from Atlanta?

I hate to misuse my professional credentials, Brian, but you're a crazy man.

Well, I had a jacket... I came through Austin, where it was 70. (sheepish grin)

That's being awfully selective on the Martian side, isn't it? I mean, it prob'ly wasn't as cold as some of Mars! I'm guessing not even colder than the planetary average. ;-)

Heheh. Yeah, the day I flew out of DFW coming back from the holidays it was about... 70ish, and that was 7AM.

*fast forward a couplethree days*

Only to come home to what was forecast to be "Seattle's Biggest Snow Since Christmas 1996". I don't think it was actually that bad, but it was bad enough work shut down for the first time in three years. We got lots of crazy people here at work, and none of them made it in.

The weather difference was enough to discombobulate and amuse me. :D
