Today's record.
Sep. 23rd, 2002 03:56 pmSubjects scheduled to be run today: 3
Subjects run today: 1 (24 to go)
Flaky no-show subjects rescheduled today: 2
New subjects recruited today: 4 (8 to go)
Today's other accomplishments:
- I saw my advisor. He doesn't hate me. He's pleased with what I've set up for this trip, especially the number of subject appointments I've scheduled in advance. Given that a lot of my dissertation avoidance involves fears that he'll yell at me, this is a huge hurdle jumped. We're meeting on Thursday to discuss data analysis, and I'm not afraid of the meeting.
- I set up an appointment with the head of Pediatrics to talk about how I can recruit more subjects from their clinics. He's been incredibly helpful before, so I have high hopes.
- I spoke to a friend who's teaching a 240-person class, and he offered to see whether any of his students are parents who might like to participate.
- In fact, I spoke to several of my friends and former professors. It's probably a surprise to no one but myself that people are reacting to my situation with sympathy and understanding. I'm feeling much less ashamed.
- I set up a study center in a rarely-used clinic interview room. Because the slide projector I used to show my slides of misbehaving children is broken, I burned them onto a CD and set them up on a computer I brought into the study center. I made enough copies of my measure packet to last through Thursday morning. I got everything for the study arranged and organized.
- I tracked down further stories of the perfidy of my former research assistant. Then I tried to let them go, which is no small feat when a potential subject says, "I was really interested, but that other person kept rescheduling our appointments. Now I just don't have time."
- I got permission from my advisor to borrow a VCR he's not using in the lab. Now I'll be able to tape the West Wing premiere.
Yesterday, also, I had a whole slew of data-and-organizational accomplishments. So I'm getting things done. Go, me! My reward tonight will be ice cream.
Left to do for today: Score the last unscored measure. Work out. Read four articles.
