At least I made it all the way home before I started sobbing. First point: You did absolutely nothing wrong. In fact, I think you handled things wonderfully. Second point: They were the ones who were screwed up, not you. (I think you know this.) Third point: You really deserve self-control points for not shooting those pinheads.
I really hope that there's some way you can make sure never to go back to that office. Or at least some way to file a formal complaint with your insurance company, or the state board of registration.
