Speaking of someone who left surgical training with major (and persistent) neurochemical problems after 9 months, I'm sure of it. Unfortunately, the plural of "anecdote" is not "data". Also unfortunately, I don't believe the system will ever change voluntarily from within - all the people in charge of it are physicians who a) came up through it and generally believe that the system works fine ("after all, I did it, and there's nothing wrong with me"), and b) if they're involved in medical education have a vested interest in having student, intern, and resident slave labor to do their work for them.
