I just signed Alex up for the research subject pool at Johns Hopkins' Laboratory for Child Development. They've already nabbed her for her first study, which is about how seven-month-olds process information related to numbers.

I explained to the woman who signed us up that I'm a researcher, and I've always thought it was good karma to help out with other people's studies. I made good use of the subject pool when I was a graduate student, and I always appreciated the parents who were pleasant and showed up when they said they would. But I also think that Alex will enjoy it. Developmental psychologists are pretty much always people who love babies and children, and they do a good job of making studies fun. Alex likes to go places and see things. It's probably going to be a match made in heaven.

And, and maybe you can actually read the papers when they're done! :-)

That's very cool. I wonder if U of M has anything like that that Liam could participate in?

Wow, how cool is that?

I always answer phone surveys for the same reason--I have been on the other side of the phone, trying to collect info. So I always take pity on others.

I am a total help-out-researchers dork. When Casper was about 5 months old, she got to sit in my lap while they played Korean from speakers on the left and right, trying to see if she recognized it as language despite never having been exposed to it before. She didn't like Korean, and cried. But she got a certificate for helping!

Maybe we can get her a little lab coat...

But wait! I know what's coming her way. The dancing letters that used to dance around you.

Did you keep her first Informed Consent Form? Suitable for framing?

Whew! Barely made it! (And only did so in MY timezone....)

Hey, Happy Birthday!
