We're having a lovely, crowded, noisy family Christmas here. Right now I can hear recorded organ music rolling out of my Dad's study, and high-pitched shrieks from the living room where the rest of the family is playing "Cricket, Cricket, I'm on fire." (Which they call something different, but I heard about it on LJ first and I'm sticking to the name I heard it by.)

I am full of turkey and pumpkin pie. And buckeye candies. And chocolate-covered ginger. And the cheese tray my brother made as an aperitif, which included Cheetos. And the iced sugar cookies my sister Juanita made. And lots of lovely wine.

Michael utterly surprised me with a Palm z22 palmtop to replace my lousy old half-broken Palm III. Yay! It's tiny and perfect and has a color screen and I can store photos on it. And I got a lovely snowflake-patterned sweater from Santa Claus in heathered light blue, and an enormous two-handled skillet, and Michael and I jointly got a mini stereo to replace our shabby old boom box.

Alex loves her toys, but (as is traditional) loved the wrapping paper even more. I was afraid that she would be horribly overloaded with presents, but it was just about perfect: stacking rings, a shape sorter, a "curiosity cube" with different manipulable parts, a few books, and some new footy pajamas in the next-larger size. She did have a post-presents meltdown, but I think it was more from the presence of a dozen loud and overly active family members than from anything else. A bottle and a nap cleared her up nicely.

My nieces and nephews are competing for the privilege of feeding Alex her dinner, helping with her bath, and generally running baby-related errands. This is great.

Oh, I have a great big smile on account of the pleasure of your Christmas. Give my regards to the adorable nieces and nephews, and a kiss to Alex. If she hadn't had a post-presents meltdown, I'd have worried about her, 'cause after that much uproar, what's a tiny girl to do?
