Pumping volume has NOTHING to do with how much a baby can get out of you. I was also never, ever able to get more than 4 oz per pumping session, 45 minutes of pumping, 3 letdowns. I had exactly 8 oz in two bottles for my dd every day until I stopped pumping when she was a year old. For this reason, I went to see her at lunch time and nursed her then. I was very lucky to have a flexible employer and a close enough daycare to do that.

And, from what I understand, subsequent babies tend to produce larger milk supplies than first babies. I'm counting on and praying for that very thing, as I await my next child in June.

There are also newer pumps now that have a different mechanism. There is one called the Whittlestone, which is supposed to mimic the baby's mouth, and express rather than suck. I'll be trying that one if I can afford it.
