For the record, Linnea knew that Lola was "being silly" in that book before Emer was born, mainly because she has extensive library use experience herself, so that's possible - but I agree that I strongly doubt she or Alex or any exceptionally bright two-year-old could compare and contrast the logical arguments. What they might grasp firmly is the difference in atmosphere between a condemnatory church and a liberal, accepting one - but I'd worry that they'd find the scary one more plausible on a gut level, though less attractive, because kids are sometimes *like* that.
