Eight hundred dollars worth of repairs to the Mazda. And the Toyota got a flat tire on the same day and had to be towed. We must've spent two thousand dollars on car repairs this year.

Damn it. Okay, at least we have the money in the bank - which means it isn't a tragedy. Last year at this time, God only knows what we would have done. But we're supposed to be saving for a down payment on a house, and instead we're having to spend money on one damn problem after another.

Gah. Many sympathies. I went through that with the Chevy Caprice, and regularly shelling out $300 at every 3 month intervals for one thing or another finally pushed me into getting a new car. (On the theory that then, such payments would at least be predictable, and I'd have warranty for 3 years at least.) That, and have a functional car that wasn't likely to start doing bizarre things at bad times.

So I definitely sympathise.

BTDT, seems like just when the light at the end of the financial tunnel, something happens with a vehicle. If it isn't repair, it's insurance or registration due.

Hang tight.

Just in case it ever becomes an issue, don't forget that a mutual friend of ours needed some financial help at one point, and received a loan from you when he needed it... he'd be glad to return the favor now that he's relatively comfortable.
