If you can see the discontinuity in the laths there, in the middle of the hole, that marks the place where the bay window begins. When the house was first built, it was oriented so that the front of the house was what is now the side. Then the street was built up along the side of the house. They added a new front room with outdoor entrance around the turn of the 20th century, and, we theorize, at the same time perhaps they added bay windows on the new front side.
At any rate, the laths for the bay window area don't line neatly up with the laths for the rest of the room. That's your disaster waiting to happen, a hundred years later.
