Belated realization.

About five o'clock Michael and I had a horrifying thought: when had we last changed Colin's diaper? In Williamsburg, that's when. Nine hours ago.

It was barely damp.

It turns out that when you're the kind of nursing mom who doesn't feel letdown, it's possible to nurse all day without noticing that your baby isn't drinking much.

Now we're doing a teaspoon of Pedialyte every three minutes. We're supposed to call the doctor back at eight.

Oh, my goodness. You poor things. He may have been doing non-nutritive suckling on purpose?

(We had a day in our recent vomiting thing where I realised *I* hadn't needed a bathroom for a ridiculous amount of time; are *you* adequately hydrated?)

Unfortunately, that's probably not the case since he asked for food a couple of times. :( Poor everyone. Please do check Mom's hydration level -- that'd be my first thought too. I hope things improve quickly.

No, I think he was asking for food because food tastes good. (He was asking for favorite snacks, like pretzels.) I think he wasn't nursing much because it didn't feel good to have anything in his tummy.

We really had to fight him to get the Pedialyte in. Poor little guy.

Eek, I never feel letdown while nursing (if there's no baby attached I do), I will keep that in mind.

I'm sure the suckling was somewhat comforting for Colin at least and I hope he rehydrates well on the Pedialyte and you can all grab a moment for food and water yourself.

Oh no! I think it was about that age that Henry was in the hospital overnight for rehydration. Jeff stayed with him all night, since Edward was a tiny baby. It was much harder on us than it was on him. I think he considered it an adventure, FWIW. I certainly hope it doesn't come to that.
