"The Cultural Experience: Ethnography in Complex Society by James P. Spradley, David W. McCurdy" was the text that was used in my intro to cultural anthropology course, which was basically a class about writing an ethnography. (i wrote mine about being the person who hangs up the clothes when they come off the truck at target. do you know how complicated that is? but i digress...) mccurdy was actually the prof who taught the class, and i liked him a lot.

the book has a lot of good examples, and a lot of it was actually written by students in spradley and mccurdy's classes over the years.

my recollection of the book may be overly rose colored because intro to cultural anthropology was probably the most useful course i took, and i'm not sure how much of it is fond memories of the prof and how much was how good the book was.
