I've mostly tended to be in the opposite boat -- I've tended to leak money, and a recent thread on Slashdot got me thinking about how I really need to tighten ship. That's probably part of why I'm still paying off credit card bills left over from transition. But by the same token, I'm using Mom's old vacuum cleaner from when I was a kid, just replaced my grandparents' old TV, and used the original RCA Select-a-vision VHS VCR from 1978 until it finally died a couple of years ago. And I'm still limping along on an old Pentium 100, which does just fine for mail, news, and web, until I can get around to hooking up the home network and my Blade 100. Not all old gear is a result of excessive penny-pinching; if something works, why replace it?
