Reading other people's journals is weirdly seductive. I've been surfing, finding names I recognize on "interests" lists, checking out those people's friends, tracing out pathways of connection. It's not so simple to find everyone I know - people aren't necessarily listed as I'd expect them to be, so there's a substantial element of serendipity.
When I first discovered livejournal.com, I actually didn't look much for people I knew - I just had it send me to random user pages. That's probably what gave me such a strong sense that this was primarily a site for histrionic teenagers with poor spelling habits. I'm now discovering that there are a lot of intelligent, grownup users - it's a matter of finding them.
Slow start to the day, today. Misha and I are wandering the net at our respective computers, working on our respective breakfasts of caffeine-and-cookies. I don't think we're going to go to any open houses today. We need haircuts. I want to go buy yarn so I can start a knitting project - a sampler afghan that shows off different pattern stitches. I'd made one before, in college, but Lane got custody of it in the breakup. (Damn her.) And we've bandied about the idea of having a movie musical marathon, of all things. He wants me to see "1776." I think it's a shocking example of cultural illiteracy that he's never seen "The Music Man" or "West Side Story." (He's never seen "The Sound of Music" either, but that can wait until we have school-aged children. I have a limited tolerance for it myself.)
