I find myself reluctant to post in my LJ unless I'm going to say something earth-shattering or profound. It's a habit I'd like to overcome - I mean, sheesh, it's nothing but egotism at the heart of it - so here's an undeniably mundane post.

It got sharply colder last night. Yesterday's temperatures were in the upper thirties, warm enough that I left my scarf at church and didn't notice. Today's temperatures were in the teens, and the wind was fierce and bitter. As luck would have it, my schedule required me to visit three different buildings at extreme opposite ends of campus from each other. All day, my joints ached in protest.

I went to the gym tonight anyway. They keep the pool at damn near blood temperature, and I wanted to feel warm and weightless. The pleasure of moving without bearing weight isn't quite as intense now that I move so much more easily on land, but it still feels freeing.

I'd forgotten how much exercise swimming is, more so than walking or riding the exercise bike. I did twenty-four lengths of the pool, evenly divided between breast stroke, side stroke, and back crawl. That was quite enough.

I am happy to see every word you type. I don't always comment because I haven't anything intelligent to say, but I always read your posts. *hugs*

Agreed, regarding the resistance to posting daily things. Unless the activities involved other people in addition to myself, my inner editor says "who'd want to read about that dull trivia?"

I've had to force myself to post for about the past 6 weeks... so I sympathize.

Ah, you did go swimming. Good.

I taught my class, and then went back to the SCC to finish selecting TDRSS passes for next week, on the principle that the earlier I request the time, the more likely I am to get it.

Also, as you've probably suspected, I'll read just about anything you post. But I do appreciate that you make an effort to post high quality stuff.

See, and here I was wondering how your gym routine was going. Silly me.

And, dang, is it cold! I want to take 5 hot baths a day to ease my joints and warm up my hands and feet, but just showering once and using a space heater is making my eczema crazy. Not as bad as some people's though -- it's good to know that, for myself, though I'm sad to hear about it on LJ.

See how it is? :-p

i am all excited to hear about weather where you are. so feel free to post about that every day. i have no real feel for how winter is other places, other than the smug egotism of the typical minnesotan in that we really do usually have awful winters and no one else can possibly have winters like this except for people from the dakotas.

anyhow. i am having sharp knee pains at the moment. i mean, not right this second, but for the past week or so. it's been coldish here, which might be related to it. but it's dry, so while my nose is threatening to revolt, my joints aren't achey.

Hee. Ask [livejournal.com profile] therealjae about winter weather. She's forbidden me to describe the weather where I am as "cold." But it's not supposed to be in the teens in Maryland. Usually winter temperatures here are in the thirties, and it's damp. When it snows, and everybody panics. You would get to feel weather-macho every day here, at least in the winter.

but it's dry, so while my nose is threatening to revolt, my joints aren't achey.

My joints respond more to changes in temperature and pressure than to particular absolute values. I like my weather monotonous.

Wait, you mean fifty degrees F isn't cold?

I should really not mention that it has been nearly hot in SoCal, with the Santana winds blowing.

This is alt.rivka. It's all about you.

And I'm glad you swam; it's actually one of my favorite ways to exercise.

Do post trivia, it's how people who never actually hang out in person keep in touch. If you see someone all the time, the minutiae is something you just know, so it never needs to be mentioned, but that doesn't make it totally uninteresting.

I can definitely understand the attraction of a warm pool. David's water therapy group is in a pool heated the way you describe, and I consider it one of the unalloyed sybaritic pleasures in my life - at least as long as it remains winter.

I kind of wish it would snow here... but I'm also kind of glad that it doesn't seem likely to, for complicated emotional reasons.

I'm fervently hoping to pick up an exercise bike soon soon soon. I fervently wish there was a decent place to swim anywhere near here. Unfortunately, swimming pools are one thing that Seattle is not renowned for. :P
