We dug out one of our cars. It was really hard. The snow was waist-deep between and around the cars, blown there by the wind, and the plows had already come through and dumped heavy snow behind us.

The trouble with living in an apartment and having a parking lot is that you can't toss the snow off to one side - you have to carry it out of the way of all the other cars. We mostly used laundry baskets for the purpose.

It was hard work. I'm impressed with the new strength I have from exercising - I was out there shoveling for nearly two hours, and I got a lot done myself. That wouldn't have been possible last winter. [livejournal.com profile] curiousangel's newly developed muscles also proved to be extremely useful. Go, us!

Wow, look at that car! That's an impressive amount of snow.

And congratulations on the muscles! You guys both rock.

That's impressive. That is much more snow than we have had to deal with in MI in quite some time.

I think being physical strong is especially important to women. I *love* being 'freakishly' strong as my friend <lj user="dragonblue1964" says. ;)

Wow! I am envious of your snow and your muscles.

Don't envy the snow! It was lovely to watch it fall, and it's still lovely on our back lawn, but it's brought the state to its knees. State of emergency, everything cancelled for tomorrow as well as today, not even close to having enough plowing resources...

You can go ahead and admire the muscles, though. *grin* I'll just stand here preening.

"Reminds me of a blizzard in '01 that buried The Cat completely.
We're still getting hammered up here in CT. We've cleared the driveway threee times in eight hours and there was at least 6-8" of snow each time. We're running out of places to put it rapidly. In fact we didn't clear the walk from the sidewalk to the front door as we needed that space to throw snow.
I dread what we'll face in the morning."

That is indeed a whole LOT of snow. Poor Amanda's car is in even worse shape, showing only about an inch of windowglass above the snow drifts. I'll help her and Mark dig it out after the plow finally comes through. No point yet, since it's parked at the curb.

Congratulations to you both for being able to do all that work. My own arms are very sore right now. It's a lot of work.

Yipes.

All things considered - and even in the middle of one of those blustery, wet, late-winter Pacific storms - I have to say I really don't miss Real Winter.

Muscles are good, though!

See, I'm in favor of all that, in the magical world where no one has to go to the hospital for a couple of days. (I think the city of Seattle has one snowplow? so I know about the shutdown of All Things, too.)

Ooh, she's preening now. :)

I think you have already earned the " dealing massive snow" merit badge. Phew. Snow in the Soo. Yikes. I've only visited, you lived there. :)

That sounds familiar, though actually the only parts of my car that are visible are a side mirror and the antenna. At least on the side I've been able to see. They still haven't cleared the sidewalks, and I have no shovel, so I barely managed to get outside and around the corner to take pictures earlier today. Struggling out to the parking lot would have been way too much work for no real purpose, since I haven't the tools to clear the car out with. I'm pretty much stuck 'til the snow melts, at this point.

(But as soon as it does, I'm buyin' a shovel! Just didn't occur to me that I'd really need one, living in an apartment complex and all.)

What car? Where?

You can't fool me. That's an aquarium. Cars have wheels.

*laugh!*

Actually, this is the one we haven't yet dug out, so I have no proof that it is not really an aquarium. And considering its vintage and its numerous maintenance problems, it might well serve us better in that role.

I've seen more snow than this on the ground, but only high in the mountains. And I've never seen this much snow fall all at once.

And they say Maryland is in the South.

About two feet in twenty-four hours. There were already a few inches on the ground. The snow blew and drifted around the cars, obviously - it wasn't quite that deep everywhere.

The thing that really gets me is that it's not really being reported in the UK, other people's weather being obviously rather less interesting than our own, and without the LJs I'd have no idea what was happening.

And then I think what would happen if we had this much snow in London ... no, maybe I shouldn't think that.
