Damn, that's cool. And the reason I find it cool is that it's a pretty good rephrasing of the letter to the Romans as I've seen it interpreted.

Yep, that's what I thought too, although I would have liked to have seen his take on it. But he was right, his larger message was more important than simple biblical exegesis.

He's said that he'd be willing to go more into exegesis with people in e-mail. I think he was concerned that if he brought things to that level of detail in the blog his larger argument would be lost, and I think he's probably right.

Wow, I noticed a lot of hits coming from livejournal today and apparently it's because of you.

You are absolutely right. I did not want to obscure the larger issue and get into scripture debates in the comments section. I feel the larger issue is the Church's ongoing hypocrisy of ignoring, discarding, and abusing the central themes of scripture and then taking homosexuals to task over a few isolated passages.

I have, however, received a number of email requests to give some specific responses to scripture. So many, in fact, that I've decided to write an examination of scripture and make it available online. I won't post this in my blog, but will provide a link to it for anyone who wants to see a detailed exegesis of all 6 passages that are thought to directly address homosexuality.
