I just had a lovely conversation with the guy who handles travel arrangements for the Institute. He's going to be buying our tickets for the 6th World Congress in Psycho-Oncology in Banff. I gave him our rather daunting list of travel requirements (which includes, for example, "Dr. Temoshok would prefer not to change planes at O'Hare") and also gave him two acceptable itineraries I'd pulled off Travelocity. He gave me stern warnings about saving receipts and limiting my meal expenses to US$39 a day, and promised to get back to me with a booked itinerary sometime next week. I already have my hotel reservations, which, pleasantly, are at a lovely hotel in downtown Banff rather than at the conference center, where Lydia's staying.

All of this is pretty good consolation for the fact that there's no way we're going to make it to Minicon this year. I was still holding on to a lingering hope, but I wasn't able to find airfares for less than $300 per person. With Michael still out of work, we can't really justify the expense. I'll miss seeing everyone.

*snif* That's too bad. I always find the second meeting easier.

*wah* Will miss you! (And Misha)

There will, one hopes, be other times, however. And I will console myself by repeating firmly that because Easter does not fall during my school break this year, I would have felt much stretched in many directions, and maybe this makes it slightly easier, even if I don't actually want it to.

Or something else similarly 'trying to find a silver lining in this cloud if I have to cover the inside with silver leaf before I start.'ish.

I know, I know. I was looking forward to seeing you, and [livejournal.com profile] kalmn, and, and, and everyone. Pray for a last-minute airfare sale, I guess.

Northwest quite often has cybersaver sales to/from Baltimore and its hubs, of which Minneapolis is one. Of course, those are Saturday to Monday tickets, and thus not _ideal_ for the convention.

But speaking of airfare, that reminds me that I need to purchase my ticket!

Yes, absolutely, because the expense of traveling to the Midwest for Wiscon would be vastly less than traveling to the Midwest for Minicon.

Or, in other words, no. You'll just have to come to apc10 if you want to pose in matching sushi clothing, alas.

I know! I was thinking that you might, and hoping that we'd have a chance to spend some time together. It's too bad.

We likewise are sad that we cannot make this year's Minicon.

You want to come stay with me? I've got a big plush hotel room I'm not paying for... and we could eat fondue!

well, it would actually be less, because much as i adore misha, i am thinking that wiscon might not be the convention of his dreams. so planefare for just you would be vastly cheaper.

You could car-trip to Jasper for the Best Sushi Ever!

Ooh. The semester will be over, so no classes keeping me away. That's a mighty tempting offer. I'll have to check my schedule, but let's make it a tentative yes!

Yaaaay! You can write all day while I'm at the conference, and we can hang out in the evenings! It'll be so cool!

I am so very, very afraid to ask what that meant.

Why do you ask questions you know you don't want the answer to?

Wah! I was so hoping to see you.

Maybe Michael will get a job in the next couple of weeks. Maybe the airlines will have a sale.

I'm thilled for you that you're going to a conference in Banff and have a nifty hotel room. I wish that you could go to Minicon, too, because you want to. Actually, mostly, I wish that all my friends could have everything they want, but I suspect that's a bit unreasonable to hope for.

Nonsense. As one of your friends, I think that's an excellent thing to hope for, and in turn I hope the same for you.
