I just had a lovely conversation with the guy who handles travel arrangements for the Institute. He's going to be buying our tickets for the 6th World Congress in Psycho-Oncology in Banff. I gave him our rather daunting list of travel requirements (which includes, for example, "Dr. Temoshok would prefer not to change planes at O'Hare") and also gave him two acceptable itineraries I'd pulled off Travelocity. He gave me stern warnings about saving receipts and limiting my meal expenses to US$39 a day, and promised to get back to me with a booked itinerary sometime next week. I already have my hotel reservations, which, pleasantly, are at a lovely hotel in downtown Banff rather than at the conference center, where Lydia's staying.

All of this is pretty good consolation for the fact that there's no way we're going to make it to Minicon this year. I was still holding on to a lingering hope, but I wasn't able to find airfares for less than $300 per person. With Michael still out of work, we can't really justify the expense. I'll miss seeing everyone.

I know, I know. I was looking forward to seeing you, and [livejournal.com profile] kalmn, and, and, and everyone. Pray for a last-minute airfare sale, I guess.

Northwest quite often has cybersaver sales to/from Baltimore and its hubs, of which Minneapolis is one. Of course, those are Saturday to Monday tickets, and thus not _ideal_ for the convention.

But speaking of airfare, that reminds me that I need to purchase my ticket!
