Donald Rumsfeld says that "coalition forces will take every precaution to protect innocent civilians." He tells Iraqi citizens to stay in their homes. He tells them not to try to flee Iraq.

Let's hope their homes aren't in Baghdad.

Thank you for a pointer to a new and interesting newspaper. When I read the story title, "Baghdad burns after US blitzkrieg," my first though was that it was a US-based, pro-US paper with an atrophied sense of irony. Then I saw it was out of Bombay. Their choice of words is exact and appropriate.

I assume that telling civilians to stay in their homes to be bombed is part of operation "Shock and Disgust."

Ah, well. Off to the peace march tomorrow.

I didn't see anything there about residential districts burning. Did I miss that? I know that the Ministry Building was aflame earlier, and may still be burning now. So far it looks as if the advice to stay at home is intended to keep civilians away from the targeted locations.
