Probably not the SARS.

I have a cough.

Not a cold-virus cough, or a bronchitis cough, or anything else I've had before. It's a shallow, dry, can't-catch-my-breath cough. Worse when I talk. Much worse when I move around. It's really uncomfortable.

No fever. No congestion, really. Allergy symptoms well controlled by Clarinex. It's just this cough, and this shortness of breath.

If it doesn't go away by Monday, I'll go to the doctor.

One of my aunts wrote her master's thesis for her degree in nursing on the human cough. She has an uncanny ability to diagnose what respiratory problems you're having by listening to you cough (for example, she correctly figured out that some of my uncle's problems were caused by asthma rather than allergies as he'd always suspected). I sometimes wish she could be lent out in cases like this.

We had a rather interesting time discussing SARS and other stuff last weekend.

In any case, I hope you feel better soon!

Ick! May your cough be nothing more than a cough, and Go Away Now!

I hope whatever it is, you are over it soon.

My guess is that you caught whatever you got from Boondocks (http://images.ucomics.com/comics/bo/2003/bo030503.gif).

Exactly! Good reference catch.

The pop culture paper towel, that's me.

Not quite as absorbent as, say, Bill Griffith's erstwhile creation (http://www.zippythepinhead.com/) but I'm a pretty quick picker-upper myself.

And for bounus giant-fiberglas-roadside-attraction weirdness

TheZippy theme song (http://www.zippythepinhead.com/pages/themsong.htm) (this link takes you to the lyrics and a link to listen to the song.

Please look at who is responsible for the song.

Amazing.

Do you have asthma? When I was first diagnosed with asthma, it was a cough like this. Then you figure out your triggers--mine are laughing (if I laugh too hard I get an asthma attack) and allergies. Even if your allergies are controlled with meds, you could still be having enough of a reaction to set off an asthma attack.

Sounds like you have the right attitude. Do check with the doc; if it goes away, then I'd still keep it in mind, keep track if it recurs, and mention it the next time you go in for any reason.

I was wondering about that, actually. Can you get asthma when you're twenty-nine?

Happened to me in my 30s, after a lovely bronchitis--courtesy of Camp Pendleton.

It's settled down now--hardly EVER do I need an inhaler. But talk about annoying...

I think so...I got it when I was 35. Mine is really well controlled, with Advair and very occasional use of an albuterol inhaler.
