I think probably one should not read Wuthering Heights for the first time when one is nearly thirty and happily married and a psychologist.

Because, sweet Jesus, I'm supposed to think that's romantic?

I stopped being able to read Wuthering Heights after reading Stella Gibbons' Cold Comfort Farm, after which no-one can encounter a novel of dark rural passions with a straight face ever again.
The passage in WH that finally did for me was:
