rivkaWhen I decided that I wanted to do a knitting project, I didn't think about the part where you make a mistake in the pattern, don't notice it for a row or two, and then have to do endless ripping-out. Nor had I anticipated the part where you get disoriented after all that ripping-out, and make additional mistakes, and have to rip them out.
When I took this job, I didn't realize how much of my time would be spent criss-crossing campus - or Baltimore - on foot or in sweltering cars, in weather which has probably made me lose ten pounds of water weight in the last week. Nor did I realize that Lydia would have inexplicable and unpredictable fits of micro-management. Nor did I realize that I would still be waiting for the contract to go through in the middle of August.
When I agreed to be born on this planet, I didn't have any idea that my contract ought to include a heat index clause. Tomorrow, the heat index is supposed to reach 109 by five o'clock. And the air quality is rated "unhealthy" for the fourth day in a row. My throat hurts.
I wish to register a complaint.

Tell it, sister!
Date: 2001-08-28 02:22 pm (UTC)I discovered only yesterday that I’ve got to tear out a chunk of the cross-stitch piece I’m working on for my Other’s birthday present; I missed a pattern repeat and dropped two rows. Trying to take out a dozen rows of 22-to-the-inch stitches, and end off the raw bit in a way it doesn’t glare at your from the front, is not my idea of entertainment.
Aren’t B’more summers entertaining? We’ve not had to deal with heat indexes much over 100 for the last couple of weeks, but that kind of parboiling is SOP here as well.
