I got about a third of the way to my clinic this morning - the one that's about 40 miles away, not the one a convenient ten minute bus ride from my house. Freezing rain was already falling - I'd scraped a thick layer of ice off my car - the roads were slick, and visibility was poor. More freezing rain is expected this afternoon.

So I asked myself, "what the hell are you doing?" Unable to think of a good answer, I turned the car around. I've canceled my patients, and I'm going to use part of the day to catch up on my dismally-behind paperwork.

Good decision. I'm at work in Columbia, where I came for the 8:30 meeting that half the people weren't here for. We also have a 2:00 meeting this afternoon, and after that I'm going to wrap things up as quickly as possible and try to get out of here.

Definitely a good choice. Even the 10 minute bus ride this morning-- or rather the 15 minute walk across campus from the bus stop-- was fraught with hazards. I'm not looking forward to getting home this afternoon after a day of freezing rain/sleet/whatever.

(Tangential whine: if the university is going to insist on brick sidewalks and marble stairs, then *why* aren't they more sensible about either clearing said sidewalks and stairs or closing down in icy weather?)

Very sensible. Most of your patients probably would have cancelled anyway.
