The hood on my parka snaps off. It got pulled off a few days ago, and I hadn't gotten around to putting it back on because I mostly wasn't going anywhere that required me to spend any time outside.

Until today.

I've just come back into my office after spending forty full minutes standing on a streetcorner waiting for the bus home. The 5:52 didn't come. The 6:08 didn't come. It's 22 degrees F, with 20 mile an hour winds. My foot is feeling better today, but in no way was it up to walking all the way home.

My fingers are barely working well enough to type. The ones on my small hand are a livid red. So were my cheeks and ears, when I saw them in the bathroom mirror a few minutes ago.

I'm so cold, and angry, and tired.

Michael's coming to get me in the car. Until then, it's important not to cry. But I'm so cold.

There's nothing worse then busses that don't come.

Except for friends or family members who don't!

At least when you call and yell at bus companies, they don't get all defensive and try to blame you for being in the right place at the right time waiting for them!

I don't blame you at all! BE pissed, and call the bus system to find out why they're running behind/not at all (I'm assuming the roads are cleared up there)!

My sympathies, Rivka

Be sure to stay extra warm for the rest of the weekend, and be sure to wash the chilled places and apply lotion to them!

Oh, yuck. :/ I hope you've gotten warm since. That's frustrating as all hell.

Warmer is good. No sign of frostbite, I take it.

Poor old thing. *hug*

It's too late now, but cold water before warm water on hands that cold. And good warm mittens.

In the same way that the dark side of Mercury, if there had been one, would have been "The Coldest Place", medium cold weather in places that don't expect it is much worse than really cold weather in places that do. It's much colder than that here, but I have the gear because I'm used to it, and the buses are used to it and come -- and when one didn't, last Saturday night, I was waiting in a shelter specially designed not to let any wind in, because the bus company knows it would be bad publicity if I were to be found frozen at a bus stop, bus pass in hand. Whereas in Baltimore, they could just say that nobody expected Winter.

May you keep warm and happy.

You're absolutely right. When I lived in Iowa, for example, there simply would not have been a situation where my hood came off my parka and was not instantly replaced. And the bus shelter would've, I don't know, actually provided shelter.

I am warm now.

I'm glad you're warm now. How frustrating, to be waiting getting colder and colder.
