What I ought to do today:
1. Work on our overdue book chapter.
2. Post to Respectful of Otters.
3. Do my cardio workout at the gym.
4. Finish learning a weights routine from the personal trainer.
5. Go to covenant group.
6. Cook dinner.
7. Post an alt.polycon 12 notice to the newsgroup.
8. Send out an e-mail to line up one more usher for each of the next two Sundays.

What I want to do today:
1. Work on my new needlework project now that, after years and years, I've finally finished my old one.

I'm serious. That's all I want to do. I'm feeling distinctly sulky.

Wow. I'm impressed that you did that ("old one"). It looks really big and complicated.

I enjoy your "Respectful of Otters" blog but you deserve to take a break from it now and then.

Ghasp!

Lookit!

You sure did a lot of work. And have more ahead of you. Pretty!

I wish I could pick a "should" chore or two for you and tell you they are expendable. :-/

I'm a little surprised that you never saw it in progress, given that I've been working on it for years - carrying it to alt.polycons, leaving it on the coffee table at my house, et cetera. Probably when you were visiting, our focus was on other things. ;-)

But yes, I made that - with some very slight variations for aesthetic purposes. (I left out the lines of longitude because I thought they looked bad.)

She did! Sometime, you should see the marvelous underseascape she did before she started this latest one. It's also amazing.

Thanks, love!

(That one can be seen here (http://www.dimensions-crafts.com/showproduct.asp?reqtype=1&colID=2&onPage=2&onItem=31&prodID=03792), although it's a pretty small picture and it's hard to make out some of the details.)

I know this feeling well. "Don't wanna, don't gotta, can't make me."

*hugs* offered and a reminder to go easier on Rivka.

The projects (old *and* new) look fabulous, and congratulations on finishing the old one! It looks massively detailed and complicated and time-consuming and and and... lovely!

Thanks! It did turn out to be massively complicated, what with all the delicate outlining and the blended fibers and metallic filaments and so forth, but it was also fun.

I love the hat you made your Cthulu, by the way. Really marvelous.

Well, I'm a known enabler, but where is it written that you can't have a "want to do" day once in a while?

Looks to me like everything on your list could wait 24 hours, except maybe the "cook dinner" part - and that's what carry-out is for.

No, alas, the covenant group is a scheduled event. So is the appointment with the personal trainer. And Sunday is, um, soon - not to say that sending out an e-mail will take that long, even if I do have to type everyone's address in from the printed list.

And, you know, right now I'm at work and my needlework is at home. I did post to 'Spectful,[1] though.

[1] This is the name my weblog goes by at home.

Boy, you don't tackle the small stuff, do you?

Much less aesthetic or technically challenging, but very satisfying, is http://www.subversivecrossstitch.com . When I finish my current piece, I'm going to begin stitching this in staff meetings.

I don't, because I enjoy actually doing the needlework much more than I enjoy having finished needlework products.

The "Subversive Cross Stitch" designs are fun, though.

I have explained to my husband that my embroidery is like his crossword puzzles: I enjoy the process more than the product. Although, by dint of working in staff meetings, I have nearly finished a piece, including the hem-stitching at the edge.

I wish the lettering on the Subversive pieces were more elaborate, though. I'd really love to do one of those Victorian perforated-paper pieces (a common one was "Bless This House") that said "Down With Bush" or possibly "Go Away".

Why, yes, I am feeling a trifle hostile at present...

Yay! Okay.

Oh: and I've come to the realization that if people are mailing a check in Canadian funds, even if they're sending it to my address they should make it out in Carol's name. She's the one with the Canadian bank account, and it will save having to do a third-party endorsement. Can you please make that change to the registration instructions?

I hope you get to do your needlework soon - the old one looks fabulous, the new one very fun :) And sometimes, you just have to let the rest of the world go by while you do your thing. Trust me :)

This doesn't really go in ROO's comments [1] but I need to say, once again, that you write spectacularly well and I'm really proud to call you my friend.

[1] As opposed to KANGA's comments, wherein anything goes.
