(no subject)

At midnight last night, Michael and I carried glasses of wine up into Alex's room. As random gunfire filled the Baltimore night, we whispered "Happy New Year, li'l baby," and then embraced. Very quietly.

Tonight we had a phenomenal New Year's supper: beef tenderloins grilled medium rare, garlic mashed potatoes and parsnips, perfect little steamed organic green peas, and a couple of glasses of Merlot.

May we eat this well, and feel this close as a family, all year long.
