We went out for sushi this evening to celebrate my birthday. (Cooked sushi, in my case.)
While we were waiting for our meal, Michael handed me a card. "To the woman I'd marry all over again, with love on your birthday," I read, and tears filled my eyes.
"You made me cry," I said, after I finished reading what he'd written inside.
He grinned at me. "You ain't seen nothin' yet."
I opened my present, a lovely silver pendant in the shape of a flaming chalice symbol. Really lovely. Nicer than any other chalice necklace I've seen. We talked about going together to pick out a chain of the proper length. I smiled from ear to ear.
And then he said: "I was also asked to give you this."
He handed me another envelope, this one addressed to "mama."
"What?..."
"Just open it."
I did, and read, "Happy birthday to you, Mom... the best Mom there ever was."
And then, in tiny tiny handwriting: "thank you for the lovely accomodations. i love you. happy birthday, and i will see you in the spring. love, li'l critter."
Oh. My. God. What a wonderful, wonderful man.
