Holiday music exchange: working out details

Confidential to [livejournal.com profile] kwalton, [livejournal.com profile] akirlu, [livejournal.com profile] jmhm, [livejournal.com profile] green_knight, [livejournal.com profile] writingortyping, [livejournal.com profile] pecunium, [livejournal.com profile] geekchick, [livejournal.com profile] okoshun, [livejournal.com profile] curiousangel, [livejournal.com profile] hlynna, and [livejournal.com profile] mactavish:

Twelve people want to participate in the holiday music exchange. Personally, I think that's probably too many to do a full exchange (everyone sends out 11 CDs), so I'd like to break the participants up into smaller exchange groups. However, I'm willing to bow to the majority opinion. Thus, I have included a poll.

[Poll #388400]

If we wind up doing smaller swap groups, my thought is that people could post their playlists here (or e-mail me) and I will try to arrange the groups so that there isn't a huge amount of song overlap. If you would very much rather be surprised by what you get, post a comment and I will revise the instructions to specify e-mailing me the playlist. No one has to supply their playlist in advance, of course.

A couple of housekeeping points:
- Please e-mail me the address to which you would like your CDs sent. (rivka5@verizon.net)
- [livejournal.com profile] pecunium really wants to receive CDs, but can't send any out. Some people have already said that they're okay with this. If you are not, please e-mail me privately and I will ensure that you don't end up in the same swap group.

Thank you all for volunteering for the swap! I think it will be a lot of fun.

I actually really do want to do this, but I'm overwhelmed with stuff to do in the next 3 weeks, and it's occurred to me that I'll be struggling to get it done without adding to the list. :(

I'm sorry I jumped in without thinking before.

I'm sorry to be reading this if it was confidential; did you miss restricting access?

No, it's just primarily of interest to the people participating in the holiday music exchange.

Ack! I forgot to opt in on that! Well, if someone drops out (but only if -- I don't want to complicate things for you) can I opt in? I would prefer to do the "round robin" .

[identity profile] patgreene.livejournal.com 2004-11-20 10:20 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, looking at it, I'm not sure I can do more than a round robin, given the limits of iTunes. So please amend my prior comment to "If you do a round robin, and someone drops out, can I opt in?"

Oh, that's an excellent point about iTunes. That might in fact bias me towards the round-robin version.

And yes, of course you're welcome to join. [livejournal.com profile] mactavish has said that she needs to drop out, so if we wind up using your preferred format, we'll include you in.

I had to create two different playlists with identical tracks for my last CD swap since I had one too many copies to make, and that seemed to work just fine.

[identity profile] patgreene.livejournal.com 2004-11-20 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmm... mine wouldn't allow playlists with simply different names, but would allow playlists with a single track changed. I found myself worrying over who would get which playlist, and whether people would have thought one playlist "better" than the other, even though it was entirely out of my control. (Although had that not been the case, I would have found something else to obsess over : ) )

Life is just frought with decisions :)

Well, I had to delete the first one and recreate it with a different name, but then it seemed to be considered an entirely new playlist.

I'm okay with using whatever format is easiest for you to deal with.

I'm good with any way that's most convenient for the participants.
