We're having our annual holiday open house tomorrow.[1]

I haven't done any cooking yet, so the next 24 hours are going to be an orgy of food preparation. I believe I'll be leaving work early.

Menu:
hot appetizers, passed on trays:
cheese-sausage balls
dilled mushrooms in puff pastry

on the buffet table:
meat and cheese platter, artistically arranged by [livejournal.com profile] curiousangel
raw vegetables with two dips (hummus and horseradish dip)
tiny phyllo pastry cups with smoked salmon, capers, and creme fraiche
snickerdoodles
refrigerator nut cookies

to drink:
hot spiced cider
Santa Carolina cabernet-merlot
ginger ale, diet Coke, ice water

Am I forgetting anything that a party needs to have?

[1] My local LJ friends did see the info, right? I made a post friends-grouped for locals, but it got no responses so I'm not sure it got out.

I saw the post (yay! I'm your friend!) but it didn't request an RSVP so I didn't respond. Especially since I wasn't sure that day whether or not I'd be able to make it. It looks like I will be able to make it up there tomorrow so yay! Everything looks really yummy and I don't see anything you're forgetting.

I saw it and had talked about it to John, but unfortunately lateitude with Christmas packages is kicking our collective butt and a drive up to your neck of the woods is not on the cards.

Terribly sorry! Hope to get up to Balto. sometime soon and have coffee!

I hope you all have a simply marvelous time.

We could try for a carpool if I weren't going to Des Moines tomorrow.

Now, now. What do you think would be more fun, Des Moines, or Baltimore with [livejournal.com profile] rivka and [livejournal.com profile] curiousangel?

How local is local? I haven't seen anything, but we are on the far end of "local."

Neeever mind.

It was *so* not there before. I read the post before it and the one after it, but that particular post...

Weird.

I'll have to ask Le Fiancee tonight. (And I was just wondering yesterday if y'all were having a party this year or not!)

We'd love to see you, but obviously this now qualifies as unbelievably short notice. Hope you can make it!

You're passing trays of hot apps around? Wow. I'm impressed.

(I would have no patience for that, and no desire to hire someone to do that.)

I find that it's a nice way to keep me circulating through the party and let me check in with everyone.

It probably helps that I feel no need to keep the appetizers constantly circulating. I'll periodically heat up a tray and carry them around the room, but I'm not trying to have them in constant flow.

When I was a kid, I always used to love passing trays of appetizers at my parents' parties. It made me feel very important and grown up. That's probably why it seems like an "of course" kind of thing to me, even now.

I'm sure he's thinking he wouldn't dream of denying you the fun.

K. [but *I* wouldn't expect you to]

an invitation for the cute blonde in Tennessee?

You have a standing invite to any and all of our parties, hon. We'll even put you up if there's any way possible -- we may only have couch space, but it's yours.

Getting to Maryland... well, you're on your own for that one. :)

*hugs* Thank you. :) Scheduling around two jobs right now is a little dicey, but I would like to make it up for a visit sometime soon. Have a great time!

I'm so sad I'll miss it this year. I've enjoyed the last two so much.

Maybe next year.
