I am not getting a cold.

No, really, I'm really not. It's out of the question. It's not going to happen. Nope nope nope. Pay no attention to the runny nose and the waking-up-with-a-sore-throat. I can't be getting a cold - it's inconceivable.

Here's my evidence:
1. I was just sick in October, with a horrible strep infection that made me miss three days of work. I was miserably sick for two weeks. There's no way it could possibly be my turn again so soon.
2. I had a horrible cold at Christmastime last year. It can't possibly be fair for me to be sick at Christmas two years in a row.
3. I'm just too busy to have a cold. Colds sap your strength.

There, isn't that convincing?

i'm convinced. clearly, the sore throat is caused by dry winter air and lack of a humidifier. the runny nose is merely running to try to increase the ambient humidity.

I like your way of thinking. But I fear I would find the "winter air" hypothesis more convincing if it weren't currently 65 degrees and sunny.
