I am not getting a cold.

No, really, I'm really not. It's out of the question. It's not going to happen. Nope nope nope. Pay no attention to the runny nose and the waking-up-with-a-sore-throat. I can't be getting a cold - it's inconceivable.

Here's my evidence:
1. I was just sick in October, with a horrible strep infection that made me miss three days of work. I was miserably sick for two weeks. There's no way it could possibly be my turn again so soon.
2. I had a horrible cold at Christmastime last year. It can't possibly be fair for me to be sick at Christmas two years in a row.
3. I'm just too busy to have a cold. Colds sap your strength.

There, isn't that convincing?

For years I have been sick on Thanksgiving or Christmas or both. I was okay this Thanksgiving, so I feel doom hanging over me for Christmas.

Of course, I was sick both last year, so maybe I'll be off the hook this year...
