[Poll #536764]

Advantages of Capclave: it's a short drive rather than a cross-country flight, it would be much cheaper, it will have Nielsen Haydens.

Advantages of apc13: it's an alt.polycon, it will be warm and beachy, I've always wanted to see the San Diego Zoo.

Yeesh. Going to both is so totally impractical.

I think I really need to attend another alt.polycon, despite my having let my newsreading go away last time my hard drive keeled over and I didn't reinstall my newsreader, but it'll be awhile before that sort of thing is part of our budget. :/

(San Diego? Eep. That's a hard weekend's drive, but it's driveable.)

Capclave: If it were me, I'd think in terms of nearness. But will you have good and loved friends there?

I'm all for you taking Alex places, but I say start small, and close, and work your way up. Capclave is a better choice for Baby's First Big Trip. I'd hate to see you trek all the way to San Diego and find it so overwhelming that you're reluctant to try another long trip.

Our first big trip comes sooner than that! We're going to Colorado for a week in August, with my family. Didn't I tell you about that?

Alas, I'm afraid that in all of the hundreds of times we've talked over the past month or so, you didn't manage to slip that in. ;-)

Have fun!

Hey, me too. Well, not with your family, obviously. =)

"Capclave" has always sounded odd to me: a cross between "Capricon" and "Conclave." Someone should host a "Conpricon," just to balance things out.

Aren't there, ah, Dreadful People, likely to attend polycon, on that coast? I wouldn't go anywhere near that.

Sorry... Go to Polycon... SD means maybe I can figure out a way to convince Maia to head down with me to see you and Alexandra.

TK

p.s. Since Alexa has family in SD this is less impractical than it seems at first blush.

Near rather than far good with baby. I haven't taken Liam on a flight over 2 hours yet - that seems awfully ambitious.

Although if I've got my ages right, she won't yet be crawling, so it probably wouldn't be too bad. I had two plane trips to DC with Liam 3 weeks apart - one before and one after he started crawling. The one after was so much worse!

And yeah, what [livejournal.com profile] minnehaha K said. That was my first thought actually - "APC? Are *they* going to be there?"

Ah!, I hadn't thought of that.

My thoughts on such are (these days) If I can take it, then the hell with them; if they can't.

If they are going to be there, I'm sure I could make back our trip expenses by selling ringside seats to our first meeting. ;-)

Hell, I could make back my expenses for Glasgow AND break even for Yokohama WorldCon in '07 by selling ringside seats to my next encounter with them.

Which will most likely be WorldCon '06 out here in beautiful downtown Ana-slime.

Yep, I am that mercenary... :>

Honestly, I don't think there would be fireworks. Certainly not generated by me. So much has changed in my life since January that the whole thing seems very distant.

Sadly, although APC would just be a day trip, we will not be there. Even though there will be lots of people I'd like to meet.

Two bad apples, yanno.

I had a rather spectacular breakup after apc12 in January. People are alluding to the possibility of the other parties involved in the breakup being there.

I don't know whether I'm going to apc13. Ryk is going for sure and I want to go, but my time and money may need to be stretched to spend time with Ryk if he spends the winter on the boat.

FWIW, Hal and I will be at Capclave, and I'm hoping there is still a chance that Rob and Avedon will be. Hal and I are taking a week to see DC, since I have never been.

Well, I moved across country with my firstborn when she was two weeks old, so my view may be somewhat slanted. But, travel with young ones isn't all that difficult if you come prepared with distraction tools and pad in a little extra time to get things done. They and you adapt, if you decide not to let it block you from doing what you want to do. My kids have grown up used to traveling--they're pretty portable creatures. :)

If you come out west and find you need a hand, I'll be there.

I would *love* to be able to meet you. I am also relatively patient. My vote is for you coming west, but only because it is very self serving. :) Go where you would be most comfortable, and have the most fun.

If only Capclave were a week later, I'd be all over it. Waldrop *and* Nielsen Haydens! In the same room! Simultaneously! Because if given a choice between laughing and breathing, who'd pick oxygen?

hmm...

We all still love you even though you're in graduate school, and we're filled with minor guilt that we're not helping with your childcare arrangements this weekend. Only minor guilt, mind you.

Since the possibility that I'll get to see this baby any time soon are very limited, I can cheerfully say that Rivka should go to whichever seems less stressful. CapClave has always sounded like a really good time to me, as does Alt.Polycon. If I were choosing one this year, I'd go for CapClave to see Avedon.
