I tell you, this morning, if the gypsies were to make me a halfway reasonable offer...

*grins*

Totally with you on this today.

My little angel decided last night would be a good night to try out pulling an allnighter. Not sure what a 3 month old NEEDS to do at 3AM....

Oh well. Sleep is vastly overrated. (*wimper*)

Yeah. Not only was she up half the night, but she's having a hard time staying asleep for her morning nap. She's usually good for a two-hour nap in the morning, but lately she's taken to waking up crying about 45 minutes in. In vain do I try to explain to her that you can tell you've napped long enough when you wake up happy. I've eventually managed to coax her back to sleep, but it was at least half an hour of I'm-so-tired-I'm-not-even-opening-my-eyes whining and crying.

Our friends brought their 2-year-old over some months ago, and he was allegedly having a wretched day. (For Auntie [livejournal.com profile] mrissa, he was a sunny little angel, of course. That's paragon in the icon there.) As he ran off, uncles in tow, his mom fell backwards on the coach and moaned, "We are selling him to the Mongols."

"Stella!" said the kid's father. "That is not fair! [beat] Expecting those nice Mongols to give us money for him!"

We have a standing agreement that we get first bid over the Mongols. I'll bet you could get Alex's doting grands, aunties, uncles, etc. to outbid Gypsies, easy.

Maybe we should establish a Mongol/Gypsy eBay site?

I've got a geriatric cat I'll trade you for her! Samantha sleeps through the night and probably throws up less.

For Sale: Shel Silverstein

One sister for sale!
One sister for sale!
One crying and spying young sister for sale!
I’m really not kidding,
So who’ll start the bidding?
Do I hear the dollar?
A nickel?
A penny?
Oh, isn’t there, isn’t there, isn’t there any
One kid that will buy this old sister for sale,
This crying and spying young sister for sale?

We've had those kind of days...

I believe I come from a long line of parents threatening to sell their kids to the gypsies (luckily they never actually wanted me). R's response is usually to threaten military school or boarding school. :) Currently, of course, there isn't enough money in the world, as I'm missing my kidlets immensely. If they start bickering 5 minutes after getting home, however...

What five minutes after getting home? Max will be crabby from the car ride, and when you get Aurora and the bonus niece, they won't be speaking to each other, and the bonus niece will be carsick...

They've been lots of fun up here. No gypsies needed just now.

I feel your pain

I've been threatening to sell my children to the gypsies for almost 15 years (Jackie will be 15 in September). The other option is leaving them on a large flat rock.

"You know, if you weren't so cute most of the time, you'd be finding yourself on a large flat rock right about now," gets said around here quite a bit. That's been especially after the Grand High Poobah of Fuss has been having one of his "DAYS," which lately has been turning into one of his "WEEKS."

The thing is, he'll do that little half-laugh of his and the huge, beaming grin-with-his-tongue-sticking-out and make everything worthwhile. It's impossible to stay irritated with him for very long.

my parents always told us that they'd asked the gypsies and that the gypsies wouldn't take us.

however, if you can wait until about the 20th, pack her up into a fedex box and ship her this way. i'll let you come visit. ;)

Many years ago, when young Kate was going for gold in the Worst Baby From Hell Olympics, I had a friend visiting from Boston. We put her twins in Colin's childcare for the day, and drove down the south shore, heading for Mahone Bay and Lunenburg. Kate Fell Asleep!!! In the car!!!

Soooo, M and I, in a foolhardy moment, decided to stop for lunch at my favourite bistro in Mahone Bay. Of course, the instant that we did, Kate started to wail again. At this point, she hadn't slept longer than 45 minutes at a time in the 2 months since she was born. And I was completely fried.

I sat down on the fender of the car and started to sob. My friend got the pram out, unfolded it, popped Kate in, and started walking up and down the sidewalk crying out "Baby for sale! Going cheap! Baby for sale!" People chuckled, and an elderly woman came over, picked Kate up, chucked her under the chin, and offered $20.

By the time I'd stopped crying and started laughing, Kate had Shut Up. It was a Miracle. And she stayed shut up as we ate lunch on the bistro patio, as long as I kept rolling the pram back and forth with one foot.

I'll send the Gypsies right over :-)

Obligatory MASH reference: What, and risk being attacked by bears?

I used to rather cheerfully tell my kids that there were places that would let me chain them to a piece of machinery and collect their wages, and that if only I had kept my passport current we'd be headed there Right Now.

Sadly, they seemed unimpressed.

Squeaky's sleep hasn't been normal in DAYS. So just to get any sleep, we've been co-sleeping. So the cycle gets worse -- she doesn't want to sleep in her crib because she's been sleeping with Mommy because we were camped in the front room with the air conditioning.

Bleah.

In my family, the threat was always "We could always sell you to the gypsies", while my husband, thanks to Monty Python, favors "It's scientific experiments for the lot of you!" We've compromised and now, when it gets bad around here we just look at each other and say, "Gypsy Scientists!"

I walked^W was dragged up and down the trains from the west of Ireland to South-East England responding to all the "Oooh, isn't she sweet?" comments with "Yes, and cheap."

No-one responded.
