Nov. 22nd, 2005 12:41 pmI was just wrapping up my lab meeting when Alex's nanny called me. I could hear the baby wailing, very close to the phone. She said that Alex had been crying all morning - didn't seem especially sicker, just "doesn't want to be here with me." She apologized profusely.
So now I'm home. Alex grinned and wiggled when I walked in the door, and then clung like a limpet, fussing, while I paid the nanny and sent her off. I gave her a little Pedialyte and tried to settle her for a nap, but she was having none of it. Now she's playing serenely on the floor. I could almost think that I came home for no reason, if it weren't for the way she looks up and checks on me every few seconds.
She doesn't seem sicker, but I guess she still needs Extra Mom.

Date: 2005-11-22 06:19 pm (UTC)I know she's gotten Alex through some rough, cranky, fussy days before, so I was very ready to believe her when she thought I should come home. I appreciate that she didn't try to make it sound like the baby's virus was worse so that I'd really be convinced.

Date: 2005-11-22 06:51 pm (UTC)I'm pleased that Liam has such good relationships with his daycare providers that he runs up to hug them when we arrive, even though going there means he's going to be away from me.
While Alex will almost certainly hit the separation anxiety phase where you leaving is the WORST THING EVER, having a good close relationship with a caregiver that started early will help insulate all of you from the pain of that phase!
Sounds like you've definitely got a good one!
