Or, heck, just beat yourself up for not being able to do those things. I mean, if you're going to beat yourself up for being human over parenting, why stop there? There are untold boatloads of misery that you could feel guilty about.
You are one of the strongest, kindest, wisest, and most wonderful people I know... but you are only human, and you have your limits, and one of them is not being able to be perfect.
I know it's hard, and I know it hurts, but, darlin', you won't do yourself or Alex any more good by being miserable about not doing more or being better or whatever parenting bit of guilt you're about to feel.
I wish like blazes there was something I could do to make things better... if there is, please ask.

100% of the time, she gets "not currently in danger or being abused or hungry or inadequately housed."
The 5% of the time that's *all* she gets means that 100% of the time, she gets *that*. Plus you don't collapse permanently.
