a) Make the phone call I've been putting off because I'm feeling too lazy to look up the number and figure out how to phrase my message.

Done. And a good thing, because I found out something I didn't know, which is probably going to cause all kinds of turmoil.

b) Water my plants.

Done. How can I be killing a jade plant? They're, like, the easiest plants in the world.

c) Contact the patient whose social worker is bugging me about getting her onto my schedule.

Done, and scheduled. The patient was a lot less excited about getting in to see me than the social worker was. I'm somehow not surprised.

d) Write at least one full page of material, no excuses.

One page plus five lines. Ha. Although I'm obviously going to have to go back and tone down the snideness later.

Yay, me. These may be pathetic accomplishments, but they're definitely better than nothing.

I don't think they're pathetic at all; in fact, these lists that you (and others) have been posting have been prodding at my mind, to do my own and get stuff done. Making lists of things to do, and updating them with completed tasks, is regularly hailed as an effective way of combatting depression.

First thing on my list: make a list... ;)

Does the jade plant have enough light? That's the only way I have made them unhappy, and the one I have in my very bright office is huge and I took half a dozen starts off it a month ago. I suppose it could be too wet... I often let mine go until its leaves are a little withered, and it seems to love cycling like that.

Plant-geek answer syndrome, sorry. :) Oh, hey, I should water mine.

And I don't think those are pathetic at all. Do you have idea how much satisfaction I get from just calling someone? It's all in how hard it is to get motivated.

It may not get enough light. Our building has tinted windows, and they're just a bit high up from the counter the plants are on. I don't think I'm overwatering - I water it twice a week and don't give it enough to keep the soil damp in between. (It's a succulent, so I figured it didn't like as much water as all that.)

I'm also trying thinning out the pot a bit - it came to me chock-full of shoots, and I'm wondering if there's just too much competition for the light there is.

I really hate making telephone calls to people I don't know very well. If left to my own devices, I would put those kinds of calls off forever. Maybe someday I'll have a secretary, and my problems will be over.

if you are, then I'm also...

but anyway, thank you for noting that you needed to water your plants, because it reminded me to water mine!

Well... if you're killing a jaded plant, you need to find something new and exciting for the plant to be filled with wonder about and then it will no longer be... uh, never mind. I think I misheard you.
