Apropos of absolutely nothing: "Hmmmm... hmmmm... Yes! No! Yes! No! Yes!"
Again apropos of nothing, while she's supposed to be sleeping: "Numbers! Numbers! One two three four five!"
Designating a small, medium, and large triangle, respectively: "Little triangle, Alex a triangle, Mama triangle."
Demonstrating a certain lack of facility with counting: "Mama's nipples - one, two, three!"
Me: Time to go to sleep now, Alex.
Alex: Helicopter sleep?
Me: Yes.
Alex: Plane sleep?
Me: Yes, planes are asleep too.
Alex: fake snoring noise.
Alex: handing me the last third of her banana raisin muffin. Away. 'Nother one?
Me: No, you still have some. Eat the one you have, and you can have another one.
Alex: No, away! pointing at plate of muffins. Couple of bites?
Me: Eat this one first.
Alex: Muffin PLEASE.
Me: It's the same as the ones on the plate.
Alex: All done.
She has also coined the words "Mamacopter" and "Mamatruck." We don't know how they differ from the ordinary kind of helicopter and truck, but surely there must be something obvious that we're missing.

From a different dialect of toddlerspeak, about 5 years ago.
Adrian: "Can you see the little yellow and black bird, over there?"
Toddler: "Oooo! Little bird!" Startled finch flies away. Puzzled toddler tries to turn around in the stroller. "Where mommy bird?"
So if there are little trucks and little helicopters, the big ones are obviously Mamacopter and Mamatruck. A 6-year-old tried to teach me the basics of gender essentialism yesterday, and I am still too freaked out to try to speculate about Papatruck.

Are you going to tell her about the custom of counting sheep? She seems to be doing so well without it.
