I am holding steady. Still coughing like crazy, and almost ridiculously weak, but the steroids and albuterol are doing their job - my breathing hasn't gotten any worse and I think has even eased up a little.

Michael is being a hero with the childcare and Rivkacare.

May I suggest a couple of things? I've been an asthmatic all my life, so I'm no stranger to respiratory distress and to steroid bursts. I'd recommend lots of hot drinks, sleeping propped up on a couple of pillows if you can bear it, and being sure to eat regular, and meals that are rich in complex carbohydrates. The carbs will help with the edgy feeling you may get from the steroids. If you put some honey if your hot drinks, it'll help soothe your throat.

I was just about to send Michael downstairs to get me a box of cookies when I realized you'd said complex carbohydrates. *sigh*

I'm doing well with the hydration and hot drinks - plenty of hot tea today and some chicken broth. A couple of extra pillows are a good idea.

Steroids = "edgy?" Is that why I woke up every hour last night? I'm on a tapered pack (6 pills the first day, 5 the second, etc.) and the instructions said to take all 6 pills the first day even if I didn't get them until the evening. So I took all six between 6pm and bedtime, and yeah. Not much sleep, even with a sedating cough syrup.

I'm having a weird feeling, for about 45 minutes after I medicate with steroids + inhaler, where I just feel kind of trembly. Like I have jellylegs. I sort of remember this from the nebulizer treatments I did a few years ago. That's where a big part of the "ridiculously weak" thing comes in... apart from the more understandable stuff like not being able to breathe well enough to pick up Alex or climb more than half a flight of stairs at a time.

Thanks for the advice. I'll take any I can get at this point.

The weird feeling is from the albuteral. I use it twice a day, so I'm used to it. The steroids affect people differently -- with your immune system dampened, other things are more obvious. Fortunately, you've got a dosepak.

I remember the medication shakiness from when I had asthma as a kid. I hope you feel better soon.

I sleep in the recliner when I have lung trouble.

Oh dear. That must be a horrible combination of scary, uncomfortable and annoying. I hope it's getting much much better and that you're back to normal very soon.
