A partial recompense for depressing you.

On Tuesday, while we were driving somewhere in the car, Alex made up a little story about some birds she saw through the window. She's been doing simple pretend play with toys for a while now, of course, but as far as I know this is her first real story:

Little birds fly in the air. "Ohhhh, I need a mama!"[1] Mama bird hug the Baby Alex bird. They fly together.

[1] Said in an extremely tragic tone of voice.

How cute! I love the dramatic intonation, and the happy ending.

How cute! I tell the cats "That's the mommy bird" at the feeder, but they don't care. They want to eat all the birds. Fortunately, they don't go outside.
