I love my church...

...in part because I just came across this announcement on our webpage:
All three of us will be there. If any other locals want to meet up beforehand, I'll spring for the coffee.
Mark your calendars for this landmark event!I've seen the banner design - it says "First Unitarian Church of Baltimore: Civil Marriage is a Civil Right." It's very nice... and very bold. And when they say our church is "very visible," they're not joking. (Among other things? We're less than a block away from the big Catholic Basilica.)
Sunday Feb. 11th, join Interweave, the choir, and our ministers before worship, when we will unfurl a Marriage Equality banner on the front of our very visible church. In honor of Founder’s Day, we will continue our founders’ rich legacy of social justice in Baltimore by this act of prophetic witness. Dress warmly and be prepared to sing and dedicate your commitment to the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community of First Unitarian Church of Baltimore.
Media will be present.
All three of us will be there. If any other locals want to meet up beforehand, I'll spring for the coffee.

Date: 2007-02-06 08:53 pm (UTC)There was something about the look that made me think that it would be put away neatly with older banners for women's suffrage and one man one vote and so forth, and that I'd not be surprised if there's one already made up for the day when the AI franchise becomes an issue.

Date: 2007-02-06 10:11 pm (UTC)Did you see the wash post magazine article (or any of the other news on the web about) about the custody court case involving VA and Vermont and civil unions?
I hope and pray that the custody suit ends up before the supreme court and they throw out VA's bloody marriage amendments. Can the supreme court overturn a state constitutional amendment?
Still cannot believe the rest of this bloody state voted for it.

Date: 2007-02-07 05:27 pm (UTC)Well, okay, the 85th birthday, that's a Good Thing.
I *may* be able to leave early enough to make it back for the Beginnings class (or to be at least not too late to it) but I doubt I will be able to make this.

But: look carefully and you'll see that there appears to be an underscore after the letters "rivka" in the username. And the lj_secret mod who made the post has the username
So, almost certainly not me. But thanks for pointing it out.
