Two years ago today, my world changed forever. I became a mother.

I decided to put together another photo montage of Alex's year just past. (Here's last year's, which took her from just a few minutes past her birth up to her first birthday.) You wouldn't think that there would be quite as much change from one to two, but I look at these pictures and know that the baby she was is permanently gone. I showed the photos to Michael, and we both cried a little. She's just... it's just so much. The joy, the wonder, the the pride, the love.














The best is yet to come. Happy birthday, Alex Wald.

The picture of Alex running through the hoops is one of the best child pictures I've ever seen.

I took that shot at SUUSI last summer. She'd been running through a similar set of hoops late one afternoon, and I didn't have the camera with me, so the very next morning, she and I set out to a quiet corner of the Virginia Tech quad where our dorms were located, and I swore I was going to get that picture. She wasn't very interested in the bike rack hoops at first, preferring to play with sticks and rocks, but she finally noticed them, and... well, I got my shot. I'm proud of that one. I was taking a photography basics class that emphasized composition, and when I showed that shot to the instructor, she just smiled at me and told me to keep it up.

I was going to point out which one was my favourite when I saw the second one (which I think is astoundingly adorable and energetic), but then they all turned out to be fantastic. :) Great photos! And an adorably vivacious kid!
