My mother gave Alex some wooden fruits and vegetables for her birthday. They're held together with Velcro, and they came with a wooden knife that can be used to "cut" them into pieces. The wooden knife has quickly become a prize possession.

At dinner tonight, Alex remarked, "My knife is made of wood." Then she reached out with one finger and touched the handle of my steak knife. "Your knife is made of sharp."

Alex is so very cool!!! :)

I love those sliceable wooden toys. I just recently discovered sliceable wooden Jewish holiday foods online too--I can't decide whether to get Tamsin sliceable wooden challah or a Chanukah set with a wooden afikomen matzoh that you can break into two and reassemble! Hee! They even have wooden matzah balls!

someone has to say it

There's a Nancy Kress story about that. I think it may be called "Mollie". The little girl whose parents are selling her clones certainly is.

Hee! I thought of that after I made this post. She's speaking Internet. Where'd she learn that?

Okay, I pride myself on having a relative amount of clue about Jewish matters, for a goy. So I have to ask... afikomen matzoh in a Chanukah set? Have I missed something important?

Nope, I am an ass. I started that sentence about the Chanukah set (which has a menorah and a little wooden wine goblet for Elijah), got distracted by all manner of chaos here and then came back about a half hour later and wrote about Pesach instead (because we were talking about sliceable food and there was nothing sliceable in the Chanukah set). This is why I never blog anymore. It's hard to write anything coherent when you only can get a half sentence out every half hour.

So yes--sorry. You are right, I am wrong. Apparently, "sliceable" trumps "proofreading" in my brain.
