sleeping_at_table

Just minutes before this picture was taken, Michael observed, "She's looking awfully sleepy."

"Yeah," I said. "But we can't skip her bath tonight. She's filthy."

She was leaning back in her booster seat, sippy cup spout in her mouth. From time to time, she took a lazy little sip. Her eyes kept rolling up and then focusing again. Then she fell fast, fast asleep.

It was a precarious position, so I helped her lower herself to the table. I tried to imagine waking her up and making her take a bath. Michael and I looked at each other, and then shrugged. We unbuckled her from the chair, eased her out of her jeans, and slipped on a pair of pajama bottoms. She stirred briefly and went back to sleep. She slept as I carried her up two flights of stairs. I put her in the crib. "Mommy," she said once. Then nothing. It was 6:20pm.

And now, for something completely different: a little picture I like to call 'After the human sacrifice.'

Anyone feel like photoshopping a still-beating human heart into her hands?

Anyone feel like photoshopping a still-beating human heart into her hands?

With this crowd, be careful what you ask for! ;-)

Somewhere in the boxes and boxes of photographs I have a set of photos of Danny, at about that age, fast asleep in a bowl of Spaghetti-Os (I know, they put an apostrophe between the O and the s, but I just can't bring myself to do it.) The last time we looked at them he was 12 or so, and made me promise *never* to show them to any of his girlfriends :).

Wives, she said in an off-hand fashion, are a different class of person than girlfriends. And 'I now pronounce you husband and wife' changes the status of the person instantly, as regards promises involving girl/boyfriends, prom dates, ect.

As I not infrequently reminded my children.

(Love the pictures of Alex, particularly the second.)

So a wife would be okay, because she's graduated out of the girlfriend stage. Great! Set them aside for his wedding present.

Second picture- will probably cause one of my 'Bad Seed' nightmares. Creepy, evil-looking child! *hides under bed*

The eeriest thing is that the different colors of paint just happened to blend into the exact shade of half-dried blood. Alex was asking for a little red, a little purple, a little green, and suddenly it was OMG BLOODBATH.

I'm just amazed you got her upstairs and into bed without incident. Elena has only fallen asleep a few times in circumstances like that - but when she wakes up (on her way to bed, or whatever) she is an absolute terror and resists sleep all the more steadfastly.

I certainly wouldn't have expected it. Just the other day, she fell asleep in the car coming home from the zoo. I tried to transfer her upstairs for a nap, but she threw an absolute screaming fit.

She was really, really tired tonight, I guess. I mean, she barely stirred when we took her jeans off, even though it meant one of us holding her up in the air while the other one pulled at her clothes.

On the second picture, the heart can probably be arranged. The beating part may be harder, but [livejournal.com profile] aladriana has some animation software that might do it.

Picture #1: Awwwwwwwww, my parents have that same photo, only of my sister. I think they also have it of my brother. I was more the "I've gotten a second wind, and now I will NEVER SLEEP AGAIN!" type, even as a toddler.

Picture #2: OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG ROFL

"Anyone feel like photoshopping a still-beating human heart into her hands?"

It's the vaguely sinister tools in the background that makes the photo.

Picture the first- "No nap! No nap!! No naaaaa- thud." A now college aged young person of my acquaintance once fell asleep while shrieking 'no nap' and running away from adults trying to corral him. Mid-step, mid-shriek, gone.

Picture the second- needs the photo-shop you requested and some scary freaky chanting for a sound track. Love the reed devil-eyes.

heh. [livejournal.com profile] erbie had similar reactions. :-)

the mention of "still-beating human heart" immediately made me think of of mola ram from the temple of doom.

I can't decide whether that would be almost as disturbing as seeing a photo of one's child photoshopped to have a cigarette in the mouth...

but still-beating human heart, without the flames and horns, as [livejournal.com profile] rivka requested, that's okay. ;-)

I actually think the horns and flames make it *less* disturbing; just the heart would be far, far worse.

heh.

i had wanted to have the subtitle be like "the posession of kali" so it was clear that alex, like indy, wouldn't tear someone's heart out on her own, but it was getting late so i just slapped that very obvious text on. not as nice as "raiders of the lost ark" or "temple of doom" but it'll do for an hours worth of photoshopping.

Can you send me the link?
