Just minutes before this picture was taken, Michael observed, "She's looking awfully sleepy."
"Yeah," I said. "But we can't skip her bath tonight. She's filthy."
She was leaning back in her booster seat, sippy cup spout in her mouth. From time to time, she took a lazy little sip. Her eyes kept rolling up and then focusing again. Then she fell fast, fast asleep.
It was a precarious position, so I helped her lower herself to the table. I tried to imagine waking her up and making her take a bath. Michael and I looked at each other, and then shrugged. We unbuckled her from the chair, eased her out of her jeans, and slipped on a pair of pajama bottoms. She stirred briefly and went back to sleep. She slept as I carried her up two flights of stairs. I put her in the crib. "Mommy," she said once. Then nothing. It was 6:20pm.
And now, for something completely different: a little picture I like to call 'After the human sacrifice.'

Anyone feel like photoshopping a still-beating human heart into her hands?

With this crowd, be careful what you ask for! ;-)
Somewhere in the boxes and boxes of photographs I have a set of photos of Danny, at about that age, fast asleep in a bowl of Spaghetti-Os (I know, they put an apostrophe between the O and the s, but I just can't bring myself to do it.) The last time we looked at them he was 12 or so, and made me promise *never* to show them to any of his girlfriends :).

As I not infrequently reminded my children.

Date: 2007-05-19 07:12 pm (UTC)i had wanted to have the subtitle be like "the posession of kali" so it was clear that alex, like indy, wouldn't tear someone's heart out on her own, but it was getting late so i just slapped that very obvious text on. not as nice as "raiders of the lost ark" or "temple of doom" but it'll do for an hours worth of photoshopping.
