Our Christmas table.
Dec. 23rd, 2007 04:23 pmI've finally decided on our Christmas dinner menu. This is the first major holiday meal I've cooked myself, if you don't count the year that my mom sprained her ankle on Thanksgiving morning and needed me to take over under her close direction.
We're having:
Filet mignon with garlicky sauteed wild mushrooms.
Baby peas with bacon and crispy leeks.
Basmati rice.
Gingerbread roll with cinnamon cream.
My preference would've been mashed potatoes and parsnips in place of the rice, but I thought it was probably wise to serve one thing of which Alex is unambiguously fond.
I'm excited! The one thing that worries me is the gingerbread roll, because the recipe looks fairly complicated. I think I'll make that the evening before, so that if it totally fails to turn out I'll still have time to make a chocolate cake or something.
Yay! Holiday cooking!
