Michael and I are absolutely delighted to announce that I am twelve weeks pregnant! I'm due August 3rd.

I was supposed to be waiting until we heard a heartbeat before I made a public announcement, but we've pretty much run out of patience with waiting for my uterus to clear the pelvic bone so they can reach it with a Doppler. (My midwife practice doesn't do routine early ultrasounds.) I went in to the midwife for a quick check this morning, and although she wasn't able to find the heartbeat she said that there's been definite growth since my first midwife appointment two weeks ago. So yay! A baby!

How I'm feeling: the first trimester has been a lot harder this time around. Much more nausea. In the last week or two it's eased up during the daytime, but I still get pretty nauseated every evening (because I'm tired, I guess?) and I often don't have much appetite for dinner. And I'm tired, but not sleeping well.

I'd say I'm about three-quarters excited and one-quarter nervous. When Alex is being difficult, it's hard to imagine going through all of this with a newborn, too. But, you know, families have been having second children for millions of years. So it must all work out somehow.

Congratulations!

Not to add any additional pressure, but how's the house-hunting going?

We've put in an application on the house next door. The broker said she just wanted to call our current landlords and see how we've been as tenants. If that clears out - and it had better - she'll bring the lease by this weekend. So we're not picking out curtains yet, but we're hopeful.

That's marvellous!! Congrats to all of you! I've had the same fear about adding a second child, with the same "it must be plausible because lots of people do it" reassurance. I have full confidence that you guys will handle it with your usual grace and love.

Yay!

I gasped with happiness at your first sentence! Oh how great! And good luck with the second and third trimesters. I hope the nausea passes quickly.

Oh, wow! Congratulations!

For the sake of your third trimester, I hope it's a mild summer.

Hee! Yeah, no kidding. Obviously we thought it would take a little longer to get pregnant than it actually did - no one plans to be 9mos pregnant in the middle of a Baltimore summer.

Congratulations. Two can also be loads of fun, even if the work quadruples.
