Decluttering is so exhiliarating. I just bagged up three-quarters of the contents of our linen closet to give to Goodwill.

We don't need a dozen sets of double bed sheets when the only double bed in the house is the rarely-used guest bed. We don't need sixteen adult-sized bath towels, half of which are too ratty to use. We don't need a massive plastic baby bathtub which, despite its gargantuan size, babies outgrow in about four months. We don't need six afghans. We don't need an electric blanket controller for an electric blanket we no longer own.

We. Don't. Need.

Cleaning out is so cathartic. I just gave a ton of fabric and towels to one of the local animal shelters so they could make beds for the critters, and Freecycle has been wonderful. I can finally park my car in the garage!

We're saving our ratty bath towels for cleaning towels now, then when we move next, they'll be sacrificed for packing and cleaning. But for now, I use them for patch-cleaning the floor, cleaning windowsills, etc. Cut in half, they're quite useful. (Actually, we're still using the least ratty of them as bath towels, because we're putting off buying new towels until we move.)

I have been really enjoying getting rid of stuff at my place too! I've made trips to Goodwill and also used Freecycle to get rid of some stuff that's too crappy to donate or sell. I've also shredded and recycled SO MUCH paper. Fun!

Unfortunately it turns out that doing the same thing at work isn't nearly as fun and that's what I'm supposed to be doing today.

How inspiring!

I want to go right home and declutter my own house.

Our linen closet is positively empty since I cleaned it out last. Congrats on your progress!

If you haven't already passed the stuff from the linen closet along to Goodwill... call a local women's or homeless shelter to see if they can use it? When I was in the shelter, things like enough sheets and towels were a godsend; I still occasionally act as a [um. damn. words gone. f$cking migraine aphasia conduit? something anyway] from friends or acquaintances and drop things off at the shelter when I'm heading to Seattle anyway.

Also, bravo on the clearing out of things. I'm down to "what I need" plus "craft supplies" and "books".

The rest seems reasonable, but I have a good collection of fairly ratty old towels. I've used them for water disasters (water heater, washer) and to clean up large spills. I use them to cushion the kitty carriers. I can give over two small shelves to a dozen old towels.
