I think it might be a reference to Bartholomew and the Oobleck (http://www.amazon.com/Bartholomew-Oobleck-Caldecott-Honor-Classic/dp/0394800753/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1208204280&sr=8-1). At least, she said some other stuff about eating boiled owls which is a direct quote from that book, so the terrible magic and the causing things probably come from Bartholomew too.
I just recently figured out that she has the attention span now for the long Dr. Seuss books. It is SO nice to be able to move from Green Eggs and Ham to The Sleep Book and Bartholomew and Happy Birthday to You.
