Night terrors again last night. They seem to come in clusters - she'll go weeks without, and then have several episodes in one night. Michael took the lead for most of them (I took the 2am shift), which was nice. It's helpful to share the misery.

Her room seemed pretty hot. I can't think of any other triggers. She did have a hard time separating at bedtime ("I'm aaaaalll alooooone in the daaaarknessss!!!"), so maybe she was still tense when she fell asleep.

I've found that it's very helpful to have a record of things like this in my LJ. If the night terrors escalate, I'll be able to go back and say "Here's when they started. Here's when they became more frequent. Here are possible triggers."

...And then the doctor can do nothing with that information. Heh. Really the only things you can do in response to night terrors are displacement activities. They make you feel better.

I always sleep badly and often have nightmares if I am too hot, so the heat might well be a factor.

I think the heat may definitely have something to do with it, so we may just have to hook up the air conditioner in her room. I do wish we could make it work with open windows, but ventilation in her room is problematic anyway (the air conditioner is mounted in the window with some hardware -- removable at need with some work, but it's not as simple as "open the window"). Maybe we'll get lucky and the white noise of the a/c will help her sleep.

I had no idea that there was an occurence at 0200. I sleep pretty hard, though, so it is easy for me to miss things like that.

Hmmm. One of the teachers at school mentioned a while ago that she used to have terrible nightmares throughout her childhood. Turns out they were mostly related to ear infections, which she also had frequently.

This is one of the reasons I post every day in my LJ. I have a good record of how I'm feeling and what's happened. The other reason is that I'm required to let someone know I'm alive every day and so the post does double-duty.
